Keeping Our Faith Strong: December 1, 2011

Matthew 11: 2-6
John was in prison when he heard what Christ was doing.  So John sent some of his followers to ask Jesus, “Are you the one we should be looking for?  Or must we wait for someone else?”  Jesus answered, “Go and tell John what you have heard and seen.  The blind are now able to see, and the lame can walk.  People with leprosy are being healed, and the deaf can hear.  The dead are raised to life, and the poor are hearing the good news.  God will bless everyone who doesn’t reject me because of what I do.”

John doesn’t seem to believe that Jesus is really the Messiah.  After being thrown in jail for spreading the gospel, he is looking for confirmation that the Messiah really is Jesus.  John believes that if Jesus really is the Messiah, he would have removed him from jail by now.  Sometimes bad things happen to good people.  We often ask God why.  During those hard times we need to accept what is happening and keep our faith strong.

In verse 6 of the scripture, it is telling John that he shouldn’t be mad.  Has there ever been a time when you were mad at God for something?
What did you do to keep your faith strong?

Dear Lord, please help those who doubt their faith.  Please allow them to have hope and to forgive during this holiday season.  Amen.
