Walking as Children of Light

Friends,

Surprising grace and deep peace to you.

If you know me at all, you are probably aware that I enjoy all sorts of music – from Van Morrison to Bob Marley, from Alabama to Boston, from Zac Brown to Norah Jones, from the Hallelujah Chorus to Hey There Delilah, from Gloria in excelsis deo to G-l-o-r-i-a  (yep, the 1964 classic party song by Them).  Music feeds my soul in a way that words cannot.   Singing along with great music evokes and inspires emotions that words alone do not muster.

The following song has become a meditative prayer for me as of late, especially after my friend, Jackie Ashley, sang it as a solo in a service. On my better days, I’ve found myself singing it around the house, almost unaware.  There’s something hopeful and inspiring about this song that leads my spirit to a better place, so I share it with you as we enter the Easter season, a season to renew our daily walk together as children of light.

“I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light” by Kathleen Thomerson

I want to walk as a child of the light;
I want to follow Jesus.
God set the stars to give light to the world;
the star of my life is Jesus.
Refrain
In him there is no darkness at all;
the night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God:
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.
I want to see the brightness of God;
I want to look at Jesus.
Clear Sun of righteousness, shine on my path,
and show me the way to the Father.
I’m looking for the coming of Christ;
I want to be with Jesus.
When we have run with patience the race,
we shall know the joy of Jesus.
